Sweet Butterflies: A story of Friendship & Hope. By Teresa Rohde

Hi, my name is Teresa and I have co-owned Sweet Butterfly Boutique since 2020.
In the summer of 2020, me and a friend of mine were furloughed from our healthcare jobs and on a float trip with our kids. On the trip, we decided to buy a sublimation printer and a heat press and make teeshirts. Worst case scenario, we would make teeshirts for ourselves and our kids, best case scenario, we would sell shirts and supplement our income.
We decided to name our boutique Sweet Butterfly Boutique, to highlight our connection. You see, me and Melissa (the other owner of Sweet Butterfly) had met 13 years prior in a bereaved parents support group. We refer to our three babies in heaven as our butterflies, and they signify our connection to each other. Their names are Kaiden and Kennedy (twins) and Evelyn.
Both me and Melissa have never owned a business, but, since we worked in the healthcare industry, we have an extensive amount of customer service experience. Not working in business or ever owning a business has been challenging at times - figuring out who our customers truly are, figuring out who to align with in the community to help advance our goals as business owners, and staying on top of the trends. We believe that owning a business is not for the faint of heart and that grit and determination are the two biggest contributing factors to owning a business.
Thank you for listening to our story.
